How to Keep Kids Safe on Halloween...Without Ruining the Fun
Halloween time brings tons of excitement as children prepare to dress up as their favorite character and consume unnatural amounts of candy. While there is lots of fun to be had, there are also a handful of potential hazards this night can bring-- but that doesn’t mean that you should let your kids miss out on the festivities.
We’ve compiled a Halloween safety tips checklist to help you keep your kids safe and keep you worry-free so everyone can enjoy this spooky holiday.
Light the Way
As dusk approaches, neighborhoods get busy quickly. The sidewalks begin bustling with trick-or-treaters and the streets start filling up with cars, and the chaos can become distracting. Make sure your children are completely visible to drivers at all times by giving each one of them a flashlight or glow stick to tote along as they walk. Flashlights also help light up walkways to avoid tripping or falling along the way.

Don’t Leave Candy Unattended
If you won’t be able to stay home and pass out candy, try to avoid leaving it out for trick-or-treaters to grab themselves. It is unlikely, but someone with bad intentions could put something harmful into the candy when nobody's looking. Again, this is unlikely, but it’s better to take precautions rather than taking risks. But imagine how great would it be to have a doorbell camera just in case.
Check Your Child’s Candy
This company is awesome. I had trouble with an alarm going off constantly after hours (dust in alarm) and they sent someone out immediately to take care of it and get the alarm turned off. A technician came the next day and fixed the errant alarm!!

Halloween Safety Tips
#1. Establish a Curfew
Set a curfew for your child so that they aren’t out all night. When the trick-or-treating has died down and the streets have cleared a bit, that’s usually when rowdy teenagers and vandals come out -- ensure your child is home so they don’t run the risk of encountering them.

#2. Party Safety
If your child is going to a party, double-check that a parent or other responsible adult will be present. Also, remind them to never leave their drinks unattended, and to call you immediately for a ride if anything gets out of hand.

#4. Driving Safety
Remind your kids to never get into the car with someone who has been drinking, and to never drive if they’re intoxicated themselves. Reassure them that you will pick them up no matter what and that they should always call you for a ride first.
The bottom line is, always be aware of your surroundings and ensure your children are clear on the rules for the night. It’s important to take the necessary precautions, but you shouldn’t let worry consume the fun for you or your kids!
